Coaching Staff

Picture
PETE GOERS was born and raised in the Chicago.  He attended Hope College and discovered volleyball.  After graduating in 1995, he moved to CA to train and compete on the AVP.  He competed 2 years full time on tour.  Pete represented the United States in the Pan Am Games in 1999, finishing 7th.  His best AVP finish was a 9th in Hermosa Beach in 2000.  
He went back to school to get a teaching degree, and began teaching 3rd grade in California in 2000.  Pete moved back to MI with his wife Sheree in 2003.  He now teaches 4th grade in Zeeland.  He lives in Grand Haven, MI with his wife Sheree, daughters Laney, Colette, and Ellie, son Jude, and Rezzi, their dog. 

COACHING:  Pete first began coaching after college while managing Inside Out Volleyball in Muskegon, MI.  He coached a boys 18 & under club team.  He has coached boys and girls high school aged club teams based in Irvine, CA, Muskegon MI, and Grand Haven, MI, and coached at the high school level at Fruitport H.S. and Zeeland West H.S.  He also coached the first Lakeshore Region Beach Volleyball Team.

STEVO VANDERWERP  grew up on the beaches of Grand Haven. Graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School in 2008. Began playing volleyball at the age of 4 and decided to pursue beach volleyball at the highest level at the age of 15. Currently pursuing a spot on the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. Throughout his 18 years of playing volleyball, he has had the opportunity to train with some of the best athletes in the game. In 2009 he was 1 of 4 athletes chosen to represent the United States at the U-21 World Championships in Blackpool, England & has trained at the Olympic Training Center. He has given private and group lessons as well as coached clinics throughout the country.

AMY MATTHEWS grew up in the Chicago area and has competed and coached successfully at all levels, including professionally.

BRIAN CRYST began playing competitive indoor club volleyball at twelve years old outside of Buffalo, New York, where he grew up. He was captain of the varsity team his junior and senior years at Kenmore East High School where he received all-conference honors, team MVP, as well as MVP of the Far West Regional Championship in 1994. In college at North Carolina State, he played three years of club volleyball earning all-conference honors his senior year. He coached elementary-aged boys and girls for Team Angle and at Grand Haven High School summer volleyball camp in 2016.
